We must make a distinction between the Old Testament and the New Testament
Failure to distinguish between the Old and the New Testament will hinder one in understanding the Bible and in obeying God's will.
The Bible itself speaks of two testaments, or covenants.
Hebrews 10:9 "Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first (covenant, h.h.), that he may establish the second (covenant, h.h.)."
The Old Testament is old because a second covenant was given. The New Testament is new because it is the second and more recent testament and because it came after the first covenant.
Hebrews 8:13"In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old…."
